The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has revealed that 23.9 per cent employable Nigerians are currently without jobs.
He however assured that the apex bank would continue to collaborate with the Bank of Industry (BoI) to fashion out models under its micro-credit lending programme to address the challenges faced by entrepreneurs.
Sanusi stated this in his address at the official launch of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) programme in Makurdi yesterday.
The CBN boss said the programme was initiated to create job for the teeming youths in the country, adding that since its inception in 2008 thousands of youths had benefitted from the scheme.
For the scheme to achieve greater success, Sanusi urged all stakeholders to support and give necessary patronage for its sustenance. The programme, which has its centre in Makurdi caters for all the six states in the North-central and the Federal Capital Territory.
Governor of Benue State, Mr. Gabriel Suswam, commended the Federal Government for considering the state, also called on the people of the geo-political zone to take advantage of the opportunities. He also promised to source for N1 billion from banks, to be disbursed to the trainees.
Also, Governor Tanko Almakura of Nassarawa State said the EDC would bring about trained skill workers who will contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
