OAU hosts confab on Nigerian Playwrights

The Institute of Cultural Studies, in collaboration with the Department of Dramatic Arts, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is set to organise the maiden conference of Nigerian Playwrights from March 8 to 10 at the Conference Centre of the university.
The convener of the conference is Prof Femi Osofisan, a distinguished playwright and theatre scholar, who is a visiting research professor in the institute. Director, Institute of Cultural Studies, OAU, Prof. Gbemisola Adeoti, said the conference aims to bring established playwrights such as J.P. Clark, Femi Osofisan, Olu Obafemi, Bode Sowande, Kalu Uka, Tunde Fatunde, Ben Tomoloju, Rasheed Gbadamosi, Ahmed Yerima, Irene Salami among others on the Nigerian stage and screen for deliberations on the challenges facing playwriting and play production in the country.
The conference will attract playwrights who have explored the text and stage as well as script writers from the contemporary video film tradition. There will be performances by the Awovarsity Theatre Company and cocktail reception to be hosted by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bamitale Omole.
